From Memorial Day to Labor Day, you can find the clients of Charlene's Angel at Freedom Springs where they exercise in the water by doing water Zumba with our volunteer Mary S. or walking the lazy river before the pool opens. Once the pools open, they can sit in the tubes and go around the lazy river, go down the slides, or dive off the diving boards. Life jackets are provided for those who need them. Who says exercising can't be fun?

We certainly know how to have fun here at Charlene's Angels!
While at our Day Program, our clients have the opportunity to play board games. puzzles, or cards which promote collaboration, inquiry, and critical thinking. By using games that support the curriculum, educators can give students opportunities to experience play, while at the same time promoting and increasing their Fine/Gross Motor Skills, Social Skills, Safety Skills, and Self-Help Skills.
At Charlene’s Angels Day Program, clients participate in fire drills, severe weather preparedness, tornado drills, business continuity exercises, and disaster recovery simulations. During our Annual Stakeholder meeting, we distributed informational packets for clients and their parents/guardians to use at home. Additionally, we organized a tour of the National Weather Service and a meteorologist delivered a talk to our clients at our Day Program. Our client's safety is of the utmost importance to us!
At Charlene’s Angels Day Program, clients have the chance to cook and bake. Recently, we introduced a new opportunity called ‘Cup of Grace,’ which operates as a coffee and dessert bar on Wednesdays. Our clients gain valuable work experience by preparing baked goods on Tuesdays. Wednesday's they practice vocational skills by taking orders and serving baked goods, smoothies, coffee, and tea to customers. Each Angel has a specific role in this endeavor. Donations are always appreciated. Lots of things are cooking here at Charene's Angels!
Zumba is an exciting and adaptable fitness trend that has gained popularity. Charlene's Angels class caters to various fitness levels, making it accessible to a wide range of participants. Our volunteer comes three days a week to exercise with our Angels. Whether a client is a seasoned dancer or a beginner, Zumba offers something enjoyable and effective!
Independent life skills are taught and reinforced daily to improve the client’s confidence in navigating community assets, i.e., shopping malls, street crossings, signage etc. Our clients are taught in the classroom about street safety, what to do in emergencies, stranger danger, how to pay for purchases in the community, and much more. We believe in promoting and supporting our clients so they can achieve greater independence and live their best life possible.
